PM’s speechwriting most of day - Death of Brezhnev - Reagan sent a letter saying that there might be opportunities now - rewriting the Foreign Policy part of speech - Balance budget part remains in, approved by Peter M [Peter Middleton] and presumably Eddie George, looks as though my peroration is for the chop!

Lunch at home!

More speechwriting - PM insists that we put in a piece on “fair tax system” in order to reassure the city that we would not introduce the Yellow Peril.

Peter Middleton - about yellow peril - and revenue letter of July on “depositions” for dividends receipts from abroad.
