Friday 15th October 1982

MS [Michael Scholar] reported that secret meeting had agreed Thresholds (with C/E [Chancellor of the Exchequer] dissenting) and more work on CAP and workfare

Patrick Minford - told him not much chance of her appointing a successor to me.

(PTB [Peter Bauer] insisted on Wages as a cause of U)

Lunch PM + Econ (PTB, G Pepper, Budd, Rose + Peter M [Peter Middleton] + Terry B [Terry Burns] ) - assured by Pepper et al that her policies were right!

Afterwards she told TB that THRESHOLDS must be reduced - TB was under instruction to argue C/E case for NIS again.
