Wednesday 6th October 1982

On 30th Sept WW [William Whitelaw] Misc 79 agreed to recommend abolishing GLC [Greater London Council] - but PM was more hesitant - not time now to do that - but would be very popular

Base Rate Cut to 10% - but told Peter M [Peter Middleton] that we needed to keep on going.

Exchange Rate over 92 again

Chips Keswick (Hambros) - really not a v. intelligent man

Yet another draft on Industrial Wastelands for Brighton - very doubtful if it will be used - phoned to Brighton

Note to PM on the collapse of Germany + Italy in April-June 1982 (20% a.r. decline in Industrial Prod in G and 30% in Italy)
