Phone call from Karl Brunner - important that he said there is no long term structural change in dem [demand? word unclear]

CBI hanging on about slump persisting forever

PM was annoyed that while in Switzerland the Treasury did not contact her about the Mexico bale-out [sic]

PM on Mexico, Brazil etc. for tomorrow’s meeting - now sees the point on export credits

- shall we ever get the money back on [word illegible] - she wants a joint initiative IMF meeting - but I said obviously no good.

PM desperate for us to do something on unemployment "spend a billion" - but what on - she was off to Scotland tomorrow.

Alfred [Alfred Sherman] + Elizabeth [probably Elizabeth Cottrell] about Hongkong - to PM 7 - 8.15. We want her to see some people (eg bankers etc) other than stooges put forward by Youde.
