Thursday 15th July 1982

Cabinet on Public Exp. - Willie [William Whitelaw] needed friends so he waited till end and then pro Chancellor Speech [probably a reference to Michael Fagan breaking in to The Queen’s bedroom at Buckingham Palace on 9 July 1982]

Hailsham also said that in the last 18 months he thought our policy was succeeding.

PS [Private Secretary] Lunch - Clive [Clive Whitmore] announced he was leaving for Defence - all genuinely sad

Question Time entirely on ASLEF
