Base Rates down NatWest first move to 12½% - Barclays eventually followed

PM was running fan in study - very noisy and sent papers flying all over the place

G men all over the place - very nervous

Paddie [Paddie Walters] came early to lunch and had a job to get in

Lunch with Pres Reagan - Paddie very thrilled. Saw Ed Meese, wearing the same Adam Smith tie - he asked us to the White House

Robert Armstrong crowed about my gaucheries in complaining to him about my exclusion from the Summit briefing

Dinner at the Chowns - Olive Dawson, very enthusiastic about my policy
