Stupid change of vote by US in UN - abstain - Jean Kirkpatrick did it deliberately to embarrass Haig

Interest rates - term structure indicates imminent fall in Base Rates - perhaps next wk

Gvr [Governor of the Bank of England, Gordon Richardson] to write to C/E [Chancellor of the Exchequer, Geoffrey Howe] suggesting that interest rate band to be reduced by 1% point

PM informed that Base Rates are likely to move next week

Very hot - we go to Pirates of Penzance in evening
