Disaster indeed - but not yet reported

Dominated by Disaster - but really not that bad, only 24 dead.

Critical issue of Rail Strike has to be decided today. All sorts of talk about BRB’s plan do get NUR on its side by delaying closing down of wkshops - but that will mean strike with ASLEF will be delayed too long and inhibit the power station build up from mid Aug onwards.

V. Strange and illogical paper from John Sparrow

Lunch with Charlie Douglas Home - we must work closely on feeding him etc.

PM asked us to have lunch with RR [Ronald Reagan]

Sent John Coles a paper saying we should concentrate on getting Jap management methods in UK

MS [Michael Scholar] telling me that only John Coles is going to Versailles summit - it seems wrong to me to let the Foreign Office get so complete a control of an Economics Summit
