John Cassels - 2nd Perm Sec - from MoP [Management & Personnel Office] about Janet Young’s discrimination in favor of young for civil service

- sinister suggestions that we should have positive discrimination for blacks

- the man was fairly stupid - no argument for the youth discrimination - YTS - due to be negotiated - wanted Civil Service youths for “pilot schemes”

McAnally Montgomery + Co - euphoria?

hardly, but they thought things were improving

Jock Douglas quite a sharp man - He complained about IR practices so I asked him to keep me informed.

Reviewed good account of Thatcherism by Darby + Langham [sic: in fact Darby & Lothian] (Citibank) - I gave him an interview about 1Y months ago.

Goldstein saw me about unfair competition with covered overheads from TRRL [Transport & Road Research Laboratory?] under British Technology Group - not fully private.
