Clive [Clive Whitmore] said PM had thought about Hugh Thomas for Policy Unit - I said he was not used to strategic thinking - more a reflective man - He said JH [John Hoskyns] has said he would like to take on BR but Clive thought not a good idea.

John Sparrow will come on economics for me!?

Lunch at Shell: Chairman EMS supporter - but obviously not thought it out and easy to beat up. Said at 6-3 [word unclear] bl/day Somalis could not produce enough gas for their processer [sic]. Confirmed that fears of price tumbling.

Note to PM about Kenneth Fleet’s piece on IR [Inland Revenue] - best to stop the IR Paper in its tracks and start again.
