1500. Two versions of the same telegram are included in this document. The first version is illegible in places, but includes an interesting handwritten note on the first page. The second version lacks this note, but is legible throughout. The source given above is for the first version of the telegram. The second version is taken from file number ALW 040/325/9. This document was derived from the Private Office files of Lord Carrington, as prepared for submission to the Franks Inquiry. The originals are due to be accessioned in due course by TNA where they will be found within FCO archives. A further copy, with annotations fuller and more legible, can be found here.
