Press Office: Press Summary for the PM (10-12 Nov) (economy, Rhodesia, Iran, etc) [possible MLR increase to record level] [released 2010]

Document type: Declassified documents

Editorial comments: This is the second earliest surviving copy of MT’s daily press summary, written by Bernard Ingham. One of the key figures in MT’s Downing Street, Bernard Ingham became Press Secretary on 1 November 1979. Observing that MT was inadequately briefed as to the contents of the press each day, he introduced - and maintained throughout her premiership - a press digest, prepared personally between 7 and 9am, assisted by his secretary who arrived at 7.30 to type as he wrote. This was delivered to her study door at 9, in person, with copies for the half a dozen or so people taking part in the briefing.
