Statement on the resignation of William Hague as Leader of the Conservative Party – 8th June 2001
Obviously this is a very disappointing result. But let me say this. William Hague campaigned tirelessly from first to last. He was a bonny fighter.
It is a sad moment for him and for Ffion, who supported him superbly. But make no mistake, the Conservative Party will be back.
