Both the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary have re-affirmed the government's position in the controversy over Salman Rushdie and his novel, THE SATANIC VERSES.
Yesterday, Mrs Thatcher made it clear that she had some sympathy for Muslims who'd been offended. But, as she left the conference today, Mrs Thatcher said there'd been no change in Government policy. And Mr Hurd gave a warning of serious consequences unless the protests stopped.
