Dear George

I should like to thank you most warmly for all that you have done during your seven years in Government. You have shouldered with great willingness the many tasks that you have been asked to undertake both in Parliament and in the two Departments in which you have served. Let me single out your contribution to the Government's work on race relations and inner cities during your time at the Department of the Environment. The last few years have seen many difficulties in these areas, but you have the satisfaction of knowing that there are positive signs as well, due in part to the policies which you have helped carry through.

I send you my most grateful thanks and warmest good wishes for the future.

Yours ever

Margaret
