Dear Prime Minister,
I am writing to thank you for the privilege and honour of being able to serve in your administration over the last five years. I firmly believe that your policies are right for Scotland as for the rest of the UK and that their continued success depends on your inspired leadership.
I look forward to spending more time with my family than has been possible recently. But I also look forward to supporting both you and Malcolm Rifkind as the MP for Eastwood in every way that I can.
Yours ever, Allan [end p1]
Dear Allan,
Thank you for your letter of 10 September.
I do want to thank you most warmly for all you have contributed to the Government, and particularly to Scotland during your time as Under Secretary. After two years serving on the Select Committee for Scotland, you have held since 1981 major responsibilities across the whole range of Scottish affairs—health, home affairs and the environment and, since the last election, industry and education. You were able to draw on your great experience at the Scottish CBI, bringing to the problems you faced a most wide-ranging knowledge of business and the needs of Scotland and the Scottish economy. You can take great pride in your achievements.
You have made a most distinguished contribution. I send you my grateful thanks and warmest good wishes for the future.
Yours ever, Margaret
