The Finchley Press, 18 July 1985, has an account of the Carnival visit during which MT added to her collection of tea towels and bought an apron with the slogan "Superwoman will use this apron as little as possible". Meeting students from Finchley’s twin town of Montclair, New Jersey, "she replied saying that the the special relationship between the United States and Britain was of inestimable value to everyone". 1620-1730 MT opened the new headquarters of shoe manufacturers Pentland Industries, which originated in Lancashire. MT commented: "We are often told politically there is a divide between North and South. There is not. We are all British. ... You see a partnership here between the North and South of our country and a partnership across the world of the kind we wish to see me of".
