Dear Prime Minister,
I am so sorry that, for reasons of ill health, I feel that I should tender my resignation.
It has been a real privilege to serve in your governments over the last four years and a fascinating time for me.
I wish you every continued success for the future
Yours ever,
Nicholas [end p1]
Dear The Earl of AvonNicholas,
I am very sorry to learn that reasons of ill health compel you to resign from the Government. I must, of course, accept your resignation but I do so with great regret.
Your work as Parliamentary Secretary in the Department of Energy and now in the Department of the Environment has been greatly valued, as was your previous contribution as Front Bench Spokesman and Whip in the House of Lords. You will be much missed both in the Department of the Environment and on the Front Bench of the Upper House. But your health must be your first priority and, in thanking you for all you have done for the Government, I send best wishes on behalf of myself, Willie Whitelaw, Patrick Jenkin and all our colleagues in the Government.
Yours ever
Margaret
