Editorial comments: 1945-2030. MT paid tribute to Louise Duncan, the founder of the League, of which she herself had been patron from the 1950s until 1980 (Finchley Press, 10 May 1980). "It was her persistence and enthusiasm that really kept it going - and I was so delighted when you were honoured with the MBE. It’s easy to start something but much harder to carry on. We have all come here tonight to honour you". MT had taken the advanced driving test herself and had stepped in to rescue the test when its survival was threatened by the withdrawal of police examiners.
