0930-1045. MT visited two factory sites operated by Bemrose, a packaging firm. The Derby Evening Telegraph, 29 April 1983 covered the visits. MT commented: "We spend Monday to Thursday in Parliament being bombarded by everything that is going wrong, so we come out of Fridays to see successful companies like this one which is looking to the future and managing to make everything go right". "We have been very pleased to see the latest equipment installed here, and are delighted that you are being a step ahead of your competitors". The following day the same paper reported an exchange with one of Bemrose’s older employees. Told that he had worked there for 48 years, MT replied: "I wouldn’t mind doing nearly 50 years in my job. Do many people reach 50 years with this company?" She was told that it was a common thing.
