| Editorial comments: | 1015 onwards. Untraced. The New York Times, 3 June 1982, has a brief quotation from MT in a report from London by Steven Rattner, dated 2 June, which almost certainly derived from the Press Conference: "Tonight, Mrs Thatcher told reporters: ’We shall repossess those islands. There will be, I am afraid, a very considerable battle at Port Stanley, very considerable’". There is a little more in the Los Angeles Times, 3 June 1982 (William Tuohy reporting): "From the very first my political judgment was that once a dictatorship or junta invades, they cannot withdraw. That assessment has been right". She argued that it was not her up to her to make peace offers to the Junta. |
