As British troops on the Falklands continue their preparations for the final push towards Port Stanley, the Prime Minister has paid tribute to the Commanding Officer of the Second Battalion the Parachute Regiment killed during the operation to recapture Goose Green and Darwin.
Mrs. Thatcher said she deeply regretted the loss of Lieutenant Colonel H. Jones - she described him as a truly valiant and courageous officer who was loved by his men.
No more details of British military operations on the Falklands have been released overnight - though there are indications that the fighting at Goose Green in which Colonel Jones was killed was intense.
