Editorial comments: MT’s train returning from Bristol stopped at Bath for two minutes where Chris Patten, the Conservative candidate, was waiting on the platform with fifty or so supporters. MT was asked about proposals to relocate some 850 local civil servants to Glasgow under recent government plans and commented: "We shall review the situation immediately after the election. We have always made it clear where we stand". To Chris Patten she said: "You will get a 10,000 majority in Bath. Then hurry back to London because we are missing you there".
