Tribute to Jean Monnet
Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of Europe, will be remembered as a man of outstanding vision and firm resolution.
These two characteristics were never better shown than when, after 1945, he persistently proclaimed the need for closer co-operation between the nations of Western Europe. He saw this as the main avenue for avoiding further conflict which had afflicted Europe twice this century.
The post-war generation and our children owe him a great debt of gratitude.
