Editorial comments: Available on CD-ROM only. Around 1500. Michael White’s article covers the whole of MT’s day in South Wales. MT made a short morale raising speech to Swansea Conservatives from which White quotes, briefly. (The Western Mail, 17 April 1979, has a few unremarkable phrases from the speech: "We have to win this seat" and "We look to you for a famous victory and I am confident you will achieve it".) Press coverage fastened on Club rules barring women from the downstairs bar. MT joined the other women upstairs, commenting that she was surprised such a rule should still exist (no account found in direct speech). Transcript of an article by Michael White published in The Guardian on 17 April 1979 and reproduced with the permission of Guardian and Observer News Services.
