Editorial comments: Around 1130. "Mrs Thatcher ran into gale-force winds in Wales during a four-mile trip as a boat passenger from Milford Haven to Pembroke Dock. Asked if she would make as good a sailor as Mr Heath, she replied: "You can’t really tell after just half-an-hour" (BBC Radio News Report 1800 27 September 1978). See also Western Mail, 29 September 1978. The West Wales Guardian, 29 September 1978 has additional material. Asked for her impressions of Milford Haven and its development she replied: "Well, there is always a conflict between jobs and beauty. I do think they have done their level best here to conserve the natural beauty and I do think they have suceeded to a great extent. The industrial developments do not intrude too much do they? At least from the sea".
