Editorial comments: MT visited Muirhead’s sawmill at Grangemouth, did a walkabout in Falkirk High Street (where she was "met with a great cheer from a very large crowd"), spent 25 minutes at Denny, toured the Dollar Academy, the Jaeger factory at Alloa and the Scottish Police Training Centre at Tultiallan. See Falkirk Herald, 20 May 1978, which stresses the enthusiasm and size of the crowds meeting her. MT commented as she left Denny: "I have really enjoyed my visit. I always like meeting people but I must say how delighted I have been with the warmth of welcome extended to me in Grangemouth, Falkirk and Denny". The Daily Express, 13 May 1978, adds that at the clothing factory MT "saw a production worker ironing a blouse. Saying "That must be very difficult" to 19-year-old Mandy Miller, Mrs Thatcher took the iron and found out for herself".
