MRS THATCHER
(Finchley and Friern Barnet)
I am grateful to you for letting me know your views. I do of course back your opposition to the principle of a one-union closed shop.
For your information, In Darlington a couple of weeks ago one of the NUJ pickets asked me what I thought of the dispute there.
I told him I was 100 per cent behind Mrs Kirk Smith in her battle and totally opposed to a closed shop in journalism. The picket wasn't pleased but at least he got a clear, straightforward reply.
