Editorial comments: | 1230. The Evening News, 23 February 1976, reports: "Tory leader Margaret Thatcher gave working wives a housekeeping tip today: Buy fitted carpets. She said, "They’re so easy to maintain with a quick flick round and clean. As an enthusiastic do-it-yourself person I’m fully aware of their value". Mrs Thatcher, who was opening a wool carpet exhibition in London, found to her surprise that one of the exhibits was named "Thatcher". "I’m told it’s supreme value for money, and that follows for Thatcher politics, too," said the Tory leader who was wearing a blue woollen dress". |
