Remarks visiting Finchley (Summer Show)

Editorial comments: Between 1430 and 1530 or after 1730. (MT left the show to deliver her speech at Hendon North but was due to return after the speech.) See the Barnet Press, 22 August 1975. MT helped judge the children’s fancy dress contest. In the winning entry, entitled "Parliament in Recess", three small girls depicted Mrs Thatcher decorating her home, Harold Wilson playing golf, and Jeremy Thorpe on the beach. "I do not wholly recognise it, but I think it is a smashing idea," commented MT. "The country does much better when Parliament is in recess". The report adds: "Mrs Thatcher, who has judged this competition for years, said it was one of the most difficult she remembered. Those who did not get prizes might just as well have had them as those who did".
