Grants: ‘Parents must help’
Mrs Margaret Thatcher, Secretary for Education, said at the weekend that parental contribution towards student grants was unlikely to be scrapped.
She said it would cost between £30 million and £40 million to abolish the contribution, and this would mount year by year as the number of students increased.
If she had £35 million to spare it would not be used for that purpose, she said.
