DIAMOND DINNER JUBILEE

The contribution Finchley Women's Citizens' Association has made to the local community and the State was praised at a Diamond Jubilee dinner on Tuesday.

The dinner at St. Mary of Finchley church hall was attended by many distinguished guests—including the Secretary of State for Education, Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, comedian Cyril Fletcher and the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Ernest Asker.

Mrs. Thatcher, MP for Finchley, gave the Association “a big thank you from the whole Finchley community.”

She said: “I don't think Finchley would be such an excellent place without the work you have done over the past 60 years.”

Mrs. Thatcher said each person in the Association “acknowledges responsibility for their own actions and responsiveness to the needs of others.”

She went on: “I would like to achieve that in education.”

The Mayor congratulated the Association on “all your achievements in the past 60 years.”

The Chairman, Mrs. O. Blade Thompson, outlined the Association's history.

After the formal proceedings Cyril Fletcher gave a humorous speech.
