Cecil "Bertie" Blatch, editor of the Finchley Press and President of the Finchley and Friern Barnet Conservative Association, had died suddenly on Tuesday aged 63. MT commented further to the Finchley Times, 28 June 1968: "Something very precious and very fine has gone out of life with the death of Mr Blatch. He was not one of the world’s takers he was one of the world’s givers. He gave his loyalty, devotion and effort to each and every cause in which he believed".
