Overview
This section of the site is still in development. It will contain copies of published work by third parties, including lectures, speeches, book extracts, academic articles and comment on Margaret Thatcher from the printed media.
Politicians
Sir Keith Joseph delievered a series of mould-breaking speeches in 1974-75. Without them, Margaret Thatcher might never have become Conservative leader.
The speeches are republished here for the first time since 1975, along with the disastrous Edgbaston speech that put paid to his own leadership prospects.
Nigel Lawson brilliantly crystallised the newly emerging economic consensus in The British Experiment (the Mais Lecture 1984).
His budget speeches and published papers like The New Conservatism (Bow Group Lecture 1980) and Thatcherism in Practice (Speech in Zurich 1981) are seminal texts for understanding the macro and microeconomic policies of the Thatcher Governments.
The press
From The Times, read an account of a fraught conversation between MT and Ronald Reagan during the Falklands War, or Julie Burchill explaining why "Slimeballs always hate a strong woman".
From The Daily Telegraph, Bill Deedes remembers his friend Denis Thatcher .
