Remarks opening Finchley Times office (a free press in a free country)

Editorial comments: Exact time uncertain. The Finchley Times, 9 April 1981, has an account of this visit to its new offices. MT referred to a free press and a free country. "The one cannot exist without the other. You would not have a free press unless it were a free country. It could not stay a free country unless we had a free press. This is absolutely fundamental to everything in which we believe. I think we have a splendid editor [Dennis Signy] and staff, and how very welcome your reporters and photographers are on every occasion that they go out and about".
