Editorial comments: 1435-1610 MT toured Smith and Nephew, a specialist plastics company. A large group of workers - as many as a thousand - walked out just before she arrived, in protest of some kind. MT brushed it aside: "I think it’s a pity - but how nice it is to see so many here". She praised the firm’s revolutionary plastic skin dressing: "Yes, it’s British - it’s been developed by this firm, and there’s nothing like it anywhere else in the world" ([Hull] Daily Mail, 17 March 1980).
