| Editorial comments: | Evening. MT faced a large student demonstration outside the school, where a crowd of 3,000 chanted "Thatcher out", according to the Birmingham Post (4 December 1971). Dozens of police were held in reserve in nearby roads and the school gates were locked and barricaded against the demonstrators while MT entered by a back gate under police guard.
