Editorial comments: A letter is in the file from Peter Dixon to Denis Healey, dated 7 Feb 1978, enclosing a petition signed by 116 members of the General Synod of the Church of England, among them ten Bishops (London, Norwich, Derby, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, St Alban's, Aston, Edmonton and Jarrow). Among other signatures was that of Michael Kinchin-Smith, an Oxford friend of MT.
