At midday the conference of the European Council comes to an end. For the Federal Chancellor, it was an “extraordinarily successful EC Summit”. Europe has come a significant way along the path to economic and political integration. The talks went surprisingly harmoniously. A firm outline calendar for the realisation of economic and monetary union is agreed. Margaret Thatcher will co-operate constructively despite her reservations.
