Dear Andreas PapandreouPrime Minister,

I very much admired your tremendous resolve in chairing the Rhodes European Council, even though you are still recovering from your operation. It was a remarkable personal effort, which earned you the respect of all your colleagues. I think the meeting succeeded in carrying forward our work in several important areas and I am most grateful for your own great contribution to that, as well as your Ministerial colleagues who have chaired the various Councils during the Greek Presidency.

May I also thank you for your very kind hospitality in Rhodes and for the excellent arrangements made for us. The transformation of the castle was truly remarkable—and thank you also for the very fine model ship. I should be grateful if you would pass on my thanks to all those responsible for the arrangements.

I hope you will now take some rest and look after yourself.

With every good wish. Warm regards Yours sincerely Margaret Thatcher.
