Your Excellency, Ladies and Gentlemen. Just before I formally open this store, may I say how delighted we are to be in Spain, what a wonderful visit we are having and that we are enjoying every moment.

But greater friendship is not only contact between governments, it is far more trade between people and far more contact between people. That is what makes it very special that today we are opening a Marks and Spencer store in this great … store in Madrid.

Wherever I go in Britain, there is a Marks and Spencer. Every Marks and Spencer is very successful because every Marks and Spencer gives superb value for money and marvellous service. I am a customer I confess. [end p1]

So it is a delight for me to see some of the best which Britain can offer here in Madrid and I know that you will take to it just as people at home know the quality that the St. Michael mark stands for.

I will formally open the store so that business can commence and flourish.
