Editorial comments: Between 1100 and 1200. MT was speaking at her constituency association’s annual autumn fair. The Finchley Times, 4 December 1980, has an account of her brief speech. Her "theme was that we should go back to the days when the saying "Britain is best" again became the clarion cry for industry. If other countries produced goods cheaper and better quality one could not blame British people for buying them. However, she was sure that this country still had the potential, the technical skill and the will to produce quality goods for the overseas and home markets. She congratulated the stall holders for a good display and hoped that the fair would be successful. She hoped the assembled audience would congratulate her on getting inflation on the downward trend".
