To me, Sir Robert Menzies is immortal. He had a fierce, burning faith in freedom and democracy and a warm and deep understanding of human nature.

He married these two things together in shaping his vision for the future.

Australia was the centre of his life, but not its boundary. His wisdom and powerful personality were felt everywhere in the free world.

We all loved him, admired him and respected him. I am so very grateful that the last Menzies lecture was delivered by one of our most brilliant, profound and loved Statesmen.
