Editorial comments: MT spent the morning and the early afternoon in Bournemouth East. The Bournemouth Times carried a brief account (26 November 1977). Striking fireman confronted MT on her walkabout and asked her to pressure the government to offer a "realistic settlement" of their pay dispute. MT later said: "We [the Conservative Party] don’t believe in strikes". But she "felt services such as the police, firemen and the troops were in special categories regarding pay and conditions. "Special arrangements should be made to look after those who look after her us".
