I have today had to accept with much regret the resignation of Mr William Clark MP as a Deputy Chairman of the Party.

William Clark's contribution to the work of Central Office, both before and since I became Leader of the Conservative Party, has been invaluable. It is in large part due to his unstinting efforts over the last few years that our Party's finances have survived the onslaught of Socialist inflation and remain so solidly based. I would like to place on record my own personal appreciation of all he has done.

William Clark has told me of his wish to be free to devote more time to his work as a Member of Parliament and to his business activities to which he has been unable to give all the attention he would have wished.

I do not intend to replace him as a Deputy Chairman.
