Editorial comments: Around 1020. The Times, 7 May 1977, reported that MT "described the results over the country as "very significant". She said: "People can look forward now to the time when there wil be a Conservative Government, and it will be a government based on common sense". She believed that the voters had given the "thumbs down" to the Labour-Liberal pact, and had shown that the people had decided that Labour was no longer in tune with the mood of the times". The Evening News, 6 May 1977, has an additional quote: "It’s a beautiful day for me in every sense of the word".
