Tory message to Mr Fraser

Mrs Margaret Thatcher the Conservative leader, yesterday sent a telegram congratulating Mr Malcolm Fraser in the Australian election results.

“My colleagues and I rejoice to see Australia rejecting socialism in favour of personal freedom, wider opportunities for private enterprise and stronger ties with Britain. Your success and that of our mutual friends in New Zealand is a shot in the arm for the Conservative Party. We in Britain confidently intend to follow your good example.”
