Editorial comments: MT took the 1700 train from London. The Yorkshire Post carried a report, illustrated with a photo of George Howard chatting to the Marks & Spencers models. Proceeds from the show were given to the Distressed Gentle Folk’s Aid Association. "Mrs Thatcher, who said that she bought clothes from the show’s sponsors, thanked Mr George and Lady Cecilia Howard for their hospitality and said: "There is still a place for this kind of association. State aid cannot always be flexible enough to cater for everybody’s needs". The compere warned that some of the lines on display would not be available in the York branch of the store "for a little time".
