See Finchley Press, 18 February 1966: MT said, "The Conservatives have begun a more pungent attack on the Socialists and as a result the people will gradually realise the effects which the management of Socialism had on the position of the country". Asked about rates, MT said that she was favour of the rating of empty commercial properties after a certain time, but definitely not the rating of empty domestic dwellings until a suitable time had elapsed as in certain situations the owners could be rated twice. She added that at the Brighton Conference in 1965 she had advocated the transfer of 100 million pounds of the rating bill to general taxation.
